Bretton Woods monetary order
World history · Politics
Delegates from 44 Allied countries designed postwar reconstruction institutions and monetary rules in 1944, from which the IMF and World Bank emerged. The fixed-exchange-rate system did not encompass all economies equally and ended when the United States suspended dollar convertibility into gold in 1971.
