Construction of Hoover Dam

Agua e infraestructura hidráulica · Presas · Río Colorado · Hidroelectricidad

Construction of Hoover Dam began in 1931 and the work was dedicated in 1935; it formed part of the Boulder Canyon Project authorised after the Colorado River Compact. Its purposes included flood control, storage, and power generation. A dam’s technical capacity does not by itself determine who receives water, electricity, or protection from risk: those outcomes also depend on contracts, law, operations, and power relations.
