Aswan High Dam, Nubia, and displacement

Agua e infraestructura hidráulica · Presas · Reasentamiento · Patrimonio cultural

Construction of the Aswan High Dam transformed the upper Nile valley and created a large reservoir affecting Nubia in Egypt and Sudan. UNESCO documents the international campaign launched in 1960 to rescue threatened monuments and also recognises the displacement of Nubian people after villages were flooded. This entry does not fix one resettlement total: estimates depend on sources, time periods, and counting criteria.
