CORDS and U.S. support for pacification in South Vietnam
War & military technology · Contrainsurgencia · Administración militar · Guerra de guerrillas · Desarrollo y guerra
From 1967, CORDS coordinated U.S. civilian and military components advising and supporting the South Vietnamese government’s pacification program. It illustrates a counterinsurgency variant linking security, administration, and development under wartime conditions, not a merely technical response to guerrilla warfare. Local capacities and priorities, contested legitimacy, violence, and opponents’ organization limited and transformed its implementation.
