Song production and use of gunpowder weapons
War & military technology · Pólvora · Fabricación de armas · Logística · Administración militar
During the Song, state administration managed armaments production through offices linked to finance, and the use of gunpowder weapons increased especially under the Southern Song. Sources indicate their use in sieges, battles, and naval warfare in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries; tactical importance does not mean they immediately displaced bows, crossbows, cavalry, fortifications, or administrative supply systems.
