Prussian cantonal recruitment system
War & military technology · Reclutamiento · Ejércitos permanentes · Administración militar · Debates historiográficos
The Prussian canton system, fixed in 1733, linked recruiting districts to regiments and helped sustain an army in peacetime. It was not uniform national conscription: foreign recruiting continued, territorial reach was uneven, and the interpretation that it alone “nationalized” the army has been challenged by historians.
