Ottoman artillery, manufacture, and corps
War & military technology · Artillería · Fabricación de armas · Ejércitos permanentes · Asedio
From the mid-fifteenth century, the Ottoman Empire developed networks for casting cannon and expanded the use of firearms among troops directly linked to the sultan, including Janissaries. Siege artillery mattered in this process, but it was neither an exclusively Ottoman advantage nor a sufficient explanation of campaigns: workshops, finance, fortifications, navies, recruitment, and opponents also shaped outcomes.
