Maurice of Nassau’s drill and tactical reforms
War & military technology · Drill · Infantería · Picas y mosquetes · Doctrina
From the 1590s, reforms associated with Maurice of Nassau disseminated repeated drill, coordinated movements, and more manageable formations to combine pikes and firearms. They were a situated response to problems of discipline, command, and firepower, not a universal recipe; the interpretation that makes them one singular “military revolution” remains historiographically debated.
