Imperial German General Staff and war planning
War & military technology · Estado Mayor · Movilización · Planificación de guerra · Logística ferroviaria
After unification in 1871, the reputation of the Prussian-German General Staff encouraged detailed planning for mobilization, deployment, and operations and influenced other military establishments. That reputation does not equal infallibility or total political control: plans depended on diplomatic assumptions, railways, reserves, incomplete information, and decisions by governments and commanders.
