Indian Ocean ports and networks in the Abbasid era
Trade & global routes · Redes marítimas · Puertos · Arqueología marítima · Océano Índico
Ports, fortified inlets, and coastal settlements in southern Arabia provide archaeological evidence of links among the Red Sea, East Africa, India, and China, especially in the Abbasid era. The finds show port connectivity, not a network directed from Baghdad or identical participation by every coast; sailors, producers, local authorities, and merchants operated under changing political and ecological regimes.
