Zheng He’s seven maritime expeditions
Oceans, navigation & cartography · Ocean navigation · Empire, trade & power
Fleets dispatched by the Ming court under Zheng He made seven expeditions through Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean to Arabia and East Africa. They were state diplomatic, commercial, and military projects; their end does not prove a uniform Chinese retreat from the sea or the end of private Asian navigation.
