Mesopotamian records of silver payments
Money, banking & finance · Contabilidad y crédito
A tablet from Umma dated between 2340 and 2316 BCE records silver payments to named people. Together with other cuneiform archives, it shows that amounts, obligations, and transfers could be fixed in writing. It is evidence of concrete administrative practice, not of coined money or a uniform monetary economy across Mesopotamia.
