VOC charter and delegated authority
Law & constitutions · Corporaciones, comercio y autoridad delegada
The States General created the Dutch East India Company (VOC) by charter in 1602. The trading company received a corporate form and delegated public powers to act in Asia; those powers depended on the charter and Dutch authorities and did not simply make it an independent sovereign state.
