Bologna and the formation of ius commune
Law & constitutions · Ius commune, educación y derecho romano
At Bologna, the study and commentary of Roman and canon-law texts made law a university discipline and helped form the ius commune. Reference to Roman law was a medieval elaboration, not a literal restoration of Rome’s jurisdiction or a uniform code automatically displacing local laws.
