1791 AD
Uprising of enslaved people in Saint-Domingue
Trabajo y organización laboral · Trabajo esclavizado · Resistencia colectiva · Plantaciones
In August 1791, enslaved people on the Northern Plain of Saint-Domingue began an uprising that attacked the plantation regime. It belongs here because of collective action against the violent organisation of enslaved labour, not as a trade episode or a complete explanation of the Haitian Revolution. Available contemporary correspondence is largely from officials and proprietors; it describes networks and aims from a hostile perspective and cannot reconstruct a single chain of command.
