Luddites: collective action over textile wages and conditions
Trabajo y organización laboral · Textiles · Acción directa · Salarios y condiciones
Textile workers across several English regions coordinated petitions, threats, protests, and frame breaking between 1811 and 1816. Their demands cannot be reduced to abstract opposition to technology: records place wage reductions, displacement of skilled trades, and employer control of production among their concerns. State repression and participants’ secrecy limit what official archives reveal about their internal organisation.
