Consolidation of the participatory social Web
Information & communication · Technology · Infrastructure
In the mid-2000s, blogs, wikis, and social networks made user publishing, profiles, and exchange more visible as platform functions. “Web 2.0” was a broad, contested label rather than a single new technical version of the Internet; later platforms combined participation with their own data, advertising, and moderation models.
