UNAIDS begins operations
Epidemics & public health · VIH/sida · Cooperación sanitaria · Instituciones de salud
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) began operating in 1996 to coordinate the UN system’s response to the epidemic. It provided a framework for collaboration among agencies, governments, and civil society, but international coordination did not eliminate national differences in funding, rights, or access to services.
