1976 AD
First recognized Ebola-virus disease outbreaks
Epidemics & public health · Ébola · Control de brotes · Enfermedades zoonóticas
In 1976, two simultaneous Ebola-virus disease outbreaks were identified in areas of today’s South Sudan and Democratic Republic of the Congo. The milestone made a family of severe viral diseases and the challenges of detection, care, and infection control visible; it does not retrospectively treat all later outbreaks as equivalent.
