1972 CE
Establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme
Climate & environment · Instituciones ambientales · Gobernanza ambiental · Cooperación internacional
The UN General Assembly established UNEP in 1972 following the Stockholm conference. The institution went on to coordinate, assess, and support international environmental action, but depends on States’ mandates, resources, and cooperation; it neither replaces national authorities nor turns its assessments into automatic policy.
