Establishment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

UNEP and the World Meteorological Organization established the IPCC in 1988 to provide policymakers with periodic assessments of knowledge about climate change. The IPCC assesses literature and does not itself make binding policy or conduct primary research; its reports sit within broader State and intergovernmental decisions.
