British Empire · Slavery & coerced labor · Resistance & colonized agency · Indigenous peoples & dispossession · Memory, reparation & restitution

The BSAC defeated the Ndebele kingdom in 1893 and expanded land seizure, taxation, and coerced labour. In 1896–1897 Ndebele and Shona communities rose in the Chimurenga/Umvukela; Mbuya Nehanda and Sekuru Kaguvi were executed, while memories of resistance shaped later nationalism
